Most of the new items from "Reveal" have now been added, along with dozens of
other items to fill in gaps here and there.
I have also slowly started to add some of the missing bootleg titles that many
have been telling me about.
Stuff from the movie "Man On The Moon" is being added. Many more items added to
fill in holes in all sections.
I have decided to rework this site to focus on what I do best... R.E.M. Collecting.
I will focus on the discographies, and add new sections for other Stuff that may be
of interest to the R.E.M. collector.
Please direct all positive comments to me at zim@svs.com

The band began it's schedule of appearances on Oct. 17-18 at Neil Young's Bridge school benefit concert. Read Sonicnet's Article about it.
A Realaudio version of "Daysleeper" is now

Look for the "Sound Room" link if you can't find it.
The rumors are true, R.E.M. *will* be making a few appearances and some of them
are even going to be open to a limited number of the general public.

It looks like VH1 will be putting together a new documentary about REM
to air later this year. Now they are asking for help from the fans:
See the following message from them:
----------
VH1 has begun just production on "R.E.M. - Behind The Music", which will
be a 1-hour documentary on the band, their music, and their lives. It
will air on VH1 sometime later this year. We would love to get in touch
with true R.E.M. fans and find out any anecdotes or information that we
won't necessarily get from the band or the label, and we also are
looking for any pictures or film or video footage that include any or
all members of the band. Anything rare or rarely seen, or just anything
interesting would be very much appreciated! Of course any submissions
will be returned asap. Please e-mail julee.margulies@mtv.com for more
information. thanks!
R.E.M. has dicided not to tour after all. They attribute this change in plan to
the departure of Bill Berry, and to the fact that they just plain don't want to be
on the road for a whole year right now.
As usual,
Sonicnet has a good story about it.
The new album "UP" is still scheduled to be released on Oct. 27.
The new album title is "UP".
R.E.M.'s appearance at the 1998 Tibetan Freedom Concert shed some more light
on a few of the new songs on the next album. Stipe has recently mentioned a song called
"Parakeet" during an interview with Charlie Rose. R.E.M. played this song along
with other new songs called "Suspicion", and "Sad Professor". No mention on whether
these will be on the new album, but I think there is a good chance...
Real Video clips for some of the songs, along with a brief review are available at:
http://freespace.virgin.net/daniel.roberts1/tfc.html
There are also articles about the TFC itself, as well as a rally held at the US Capitol
On Monday June 15. Sonicnet has
a good selection of articles.
The new R.E.M. trio will have its first official release of a new song in an issue
of the Southern literary journal "Oxford American Magazine". The song is said to be
a ballad called "Why Not Smile". A couple of links to stories about this can be
found at the Wall of Sound web site. There is also a story on the SonicNet site.
Peter Buck is rumoured to have told a fan that October 27, 1998 is the release
date for the as yet un-named new album.
Watch this space for more details as they become available...
Sonicnet is reporting that R.E.M. will have its first post-Bill Berry performance at
the 1998 Tibetan Freedom Concert.
Sonicnet has a good story about the next album, and what it might sound like.
Many sources are reporting new details about the next album. News is that the next
album is due out in October 1998, and *will* be followed by a world tour in January
1999.
One source is Addicted To Noise. Check it out for the full story.
This week's EW has a blurb on the band and their new drummer. As some
have already speculated, Barrett Martin from Screeming Trees has been
named Bill's replacement for the new album. The band goes back into the
studio in San Franscisco sometime during the next two weeks. They'll be
joined by Scott McCaughey.
Quoting EW quoting Martin: "I feel confident about what I can do with them,
but I'm also in awe of them as people. . . . No mistake--these three are
the band, they write the songs, they have the vision. I'm not joining REM. I'm
not replacing Bill Berry. I'm just playing a lot of instruments on their album."
A Letter to the R.E.M. Fan Club Members was sent out that read the following:
To The R.E.M. Fan Club:
Michele Rawson, our fan club director, passed away over the holidays. We are all
very sad and upset and our thoughts and prayers are with her and her family.
We miss Michele - she was a kind, gentle, caring person who worked with us for more
than six years. She loved R.E.M. - the guys, the music, the staff, and especially,
the members of the fan club.
We Mourn her loss, and we appreciate your support and concern.
Peace,
Bill Peter Mike Michael

MTV is reporting that Bill Berry has decided to leave the band. Initial
word is that the band will not break up, and will not replace him either.
